Growing up in New York City, Harvey chronicled the cultural and musical scenes starting in the late 1960’s in 35mm black & white film and slides. Photographs feature icons Pete Seeger, The Band (Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm et al), Dave Van Ronk, Buddy Guy, Tim Buckley, Gram Parsons, Eric Andersen, The Byrds, Poco, Sha Na Na, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, Mimi Farina, Laura Nyro, John Mayall, Al Kooper, Country Joe McDonald, Jane Fonda, Norman Mailer and many others, both on and off stage — as well as images of the political upheaval, people, and streets of New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Berkeley, etc.
Harvey has a photographic image representation agreement with Getty Images (Corbis Historical Collection).
His photographs have been published in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The New York Times, Boston Globe, Smithsonian, National Geographic, Newsweek, and numerous other national and international publications. Harvey’s work has been featured in books, websites, and independent films, including the documentary, “Paul Goodman Changed My Life.” He is interviewed and has photography published in the 2015 SUNY Press book “Binghamton Babylon: Voices from the Cinema Department.”
Harvey is an independent Executive Producer of meetings, live events, and media (including videos and animations) and has produced major projects for some of the world’s leading corporations including Sodexo, XL Capital, Astra, Reebok, Gillette, Oral-B, and Duracell.
He was an Assistant Professor of Photography at the Art Institute of Boston. And early in his career he produced and staged multi-image slide shows.
Harvey is the Executive Producer of several independent films, including the feature film “Uncertain Terms” which won the First Annual Ultra Indie Award at the 2014 Woodstock Film Festival, screened at MOMA and major film festivals around the world, and is now available on Netflix. Harvey is Executive Producer and Director of Photography for the short film “Riot” which premiered in 2015 at the New York Film Festival and the Locarno International Film Festival and is a 2016 Vimeo Staff Pick.
Harvey lives in the Town of Rhinebeck with his wife, Cindy.
